Identification Test of Fibers

Now as we learnt about the chemical composition, it will be easy to explain required test to identify them in a blend.

Fibers	Chemical Test	Physical Test
Cotton	Dissolves in H2SO4	Burns like paper (Smell)
Jute	Dissolves in H2SO4	Burns like paper (Smell)
Silk	Dissolves in HCL & NaOH, NaOCl Slowly dissolves in HNO3	Burns like hair (Smell)
Wool	Dissolves in NaOh, NaOCl But Swells in HCL (Don't dissolve like Silk) Slowly dissolves in HNO3	Do not set flame easily Burns like hair (Smell)
PET	Dissolves in KOH and Phenol	Melts in flame, do not burn
